Rhuey Bennett

Rossville- Rhuey Bennett, 87, of Rossville passed away at 5:44 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital. She was a loving and caring person who knew no stranger. She was born to her parents Ray and Lutie Rice on November 23, 1925 on the family farm west of Rossville. Rhuey graduated from Rossville High School in 1945. She married the love of her life, Jesse E. Bennett on February 14, 1948 in a ceremony at her family's home. She is survived by her husband Jesse, her two sons Sam (Gail) of Johnsburg, IL and Martin (Nicole) of Niederhasle, Switzerland, and granddaughters Jessalyn, Amy, and Jennifer, and grandsons Robin and Luca. She was preceded in death by her daughter, LuAnn, her parents, her sisters Betty Elizabeth and Mary Rhea, and her brother Martin. After High School she was employed in the U.S. Treasury Office in Danville and went on to work as a phone operator for Illinois Bell. She was one of the starting members of the Danville Bell Credit Union, a Telephone Pioneer Partner and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was an adult leader for the Methodist Youth Fellowship in Rossville. One of her biggest enjoyments in life was dancing. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed laughing. She remained very active even into her later years, regularly attending pool exercises classes and traveling all over the country. The last few years she had three "special angel", friends who were kind and helpful to her on trips. A service to celebrate the life of Rhuey Bennett will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at United Methodist Church of Rossville. Pastor Beckie Laumeier will officiate. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, December 4, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
