Rhita "Jane" Lewis

Newport, Ind. - Rhita "Jane" Lewis, 82, of Newport, passed away at 1:50 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 23, 2014 at her residence. She was born July 4, 1932 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Florence Bebehieser Hatcher and Edward Waddy. She married Bill Lewis on July 23, 1948 in Rockville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Geri(Joe)Mock of Dana, Indiana; two sons, Tony Lewis of Terre Haute, Indiana and Nick Lewis of Newport, Indiana; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her step father, Paul Hatcher and granddaughter, Jessica Hensley. Jane was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church, Newport Bunco Club and the Newport American Legion Auxiliary Unit #184. Funeral services: 3 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 26, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 26, 2014 until time of services at the funeral home.
