RETTA J. (KANTZ) BAER Retta J. (Kantz) Baer, 58, of Danville, passed away at 2:35p.m. Saturday, August 08, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Retta was born on August 16, 1950 in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of Loren and Ruth A. (Baker) Kantz. She married Milton Baer on November 15, 1969 in Danville. He survives. She is also survived by her son- Jason E. (Sadie) Baer of Danville; daughter- Sarah (Mikel) Funk of Danville; one brother- Harry (Sally) Kantz of Solon, Ohio; three grandchildren- Noah Carroll, Alex Funk and Addison Funk all of Danville; two special friends- Frada Green of Panama City, Florida and Linda Keegan of West Point, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother- Robert Kantz. Retta was a graduate of Southwestern High School in Indiana and earned her lab degree from St. Elizabeths. She worked for over 25 years as a lab tech at St. Elizabeths, Polyclinic and in Hoopeston Hospital. She also volunteered at the Danville Public library. Retta enjoyed reading and flower gardens. A Celebration of the Life of Retta J. Baer will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rabbi Sheldon Switkin officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery following the service.
