Danville- Renetta J. Bahls, 103, of Danville went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Mrs. Bahls was born Jan. 3, 1908 in Danville to John and Louise Henk Rook. She married Martin J. Bahls on May 29, 1927 in Danville. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1961. Survivors include a son, Gene C. Bahls of Danville, a daughter Carol (Bert) Johnston of Danville; four grandchildren, Dr. Martin (Tracy) Toy of Murfreesboro, TN, Kristin (Steve) Baumgartner of Skillman, NJ, Sara (Warren) Neville of McDonough, GA, and David Bahls of Danville, three great-grandchildren Jennifer (Brian) Spear, Christopher (Shannon) Durre, Elizabeth (Jason) Williams, and four great-great grandchildren, all living in Georgia; one niece, Maxine Linne of Danville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Leone Smith; son-in-law Dr. Kenneth Toy; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bahls; and a grand-son Steven Bahls; a stepfather, Jesse Robinson; two step-brothers, Walter & Joe Robinson; a stepsister, Alice Fairchild. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School, Danville High School, and was a graduate of Brown Business College. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. At the time of her death, she was their oldest member. She served as a Sunday school teacher, the Womens Guild, a special Womens Choir group, and faithfully attended Tuesday Morning Womens Bible Study for many years. She was active in forming and served as President of the Mothers Club (now the PTL) of Immanuel Lutheran School. She was instrumental in organizing the first kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran School where she also assisted in the teaching activities for a period of time. She was active in the Girl Scout Program of Danville and the local Civil Defense Program during WWII. In her former years, she worked as a secretary, and later following the death of her husband, she was employed in the office of Dr. John C. Mason and Dr J.F. Rojas. She retired in February of 1974. As a homemaker, her specialty was baking. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She was a member of the same bridge club for more than 50 years. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Services will be Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville. Pastor Daniel Fienen will officiate. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the services at the church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
