Raymond'Ray' A Hawn

Raymond "Ray" A. Hawn, 69, of Mahomet, formerly of Danville, Illinois and Bargersville, Indiana, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, after a 4 year battle with Lymphatic Cancer. Ray was born on July 20th, 1942, in Dana, Indiana, the son of Sylvanus A. "Sy" and Frieda Alleen (Grimes) Hawn. He married Shirley A. Barbee on February 1st, 1964, in Tuscola, Illinois. She survives. He is also survived by a son- Geoff (Elizabeth "Lizzie") Hawn of Maricopa, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Betty J. Murdock and a brother- Glen Hawn. Ray graduated from Danville High School. He was a former member of the Illinois Army National Guard, from 1962-1968, serving during the Chicago riots. He was formerly employed by Matrix Labels of Plainfield, Indiana, Stone Wheel Inc. of Willowbrook, Illinois and Associated Transfer in Champaign, Illinois. He enjoyed watching sports, news and all of the current events. He was an avid Indiana University sports fan and NASCAR. He loved God and read, studied and enjoyed the Bible daily. He was a member Community Church of Greenwood, Indiana. A Celebration of the life of Raymond "Ray" Allen Hawn will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Dave Wickens of the Church of Living Water in Williamsport, Indiana officiating. Entombment will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park Swan Court Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Raymond's name to the Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Regional Cancer Center. The family would like to say a special "Thanks" to Dr. Labayog and his staff, as well as the 4 East Provena Medical, Nursing and CNA staff.
