Danville – Raymond “Dean” Snyder, 87, of Danville, passed away at 3:35 AM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born May 7, 1937 in Danville to Benjamin and Heidi (Wilson) Snyder. He married Willa Clayton in Danville in 1959. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Dean (Sandra) Snyder of Lexington, SC, and Sid (Laurie) Snyder of Manchester, TN; five grandchildren, Kristi, James, Ben, Lacey, and Emily; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and four sisters.
Dean was a graduate of Oakwood High School where he played basketball and attended Harding University. He worked at Esco in Danville for 15 years before becoming a car inspector for the railroad where he retired after over 20 years of service. Dean was a member and former elder at the East Park Church of Christ. He was on a bowling team for several years and was an avid card player. Dean especially liked hunting and eating morel mushrooms and loved the vacations he and his family would take to Sarasota, FL.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Raymond “Dean” Snyder will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at East Park Church of Christ, 1224 E. Voorhees St., Danville, IL 61834. Visitation will be held from 10-10:30 AM prior to the service at the church. Dean’s son, Sid Snyder, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later time at Sunset Memorial Park. Cremation services have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834.
