Raymond Robeck

Danville - Raymond Henry Robeck, 92, of Danville, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Tolono, IL on January 28, 1931 to Henry Robeck and Geneva (Connor) Robeck. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Francella (Keenan) Robeck and by his children; Marcella Jayne Robeck and Raymond James Robeck. Ray is survived by his children, Theresa Mary Robeck, Elizabeth (Brad) Keilholz, Richard (John) Robeck, Robert (Andy) Robeck; grandchildren, Adam Robeck, Katrina (Keilholz) (Greg) Hecker, Alex Keilholz, Mandi Keilholz, and Erica Burke. Siblings, Dorothy (Robeck) Ward, and Rita (Robeck) Ianni also survive.

After graduating from Kingman high school in Indiana, Ray served our Country in the Armys 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. He worked as a machinist his entire career at several local machine shops which include Hurletron Inc., Teepak, and Towne Machine Tool Company, Inc..

He and his wife Mary were married on June 23, 1956 at St. Pauls Church and have been long standing members of the St. Pauls community since. While dating the couple loved to roller skate at the Illini Roller Rink, were excellent pair skaters, and years later stunned their children by boogie skating during St. Pauls skate nights. In the early years of their marriage the couple took ballroom dancing lessons at the American Legion and he loved to attend any event that would involve any type of dancing, especially weddings. Ray loved music and singing along with any big band recordings, or his favorites, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. He enjoyed his extensive music collection and could be found most evenings on his beloved front porch listening and singing along, usually while working on a new woodworking project or puzzle.

His granddaughter, Mandi, described her Grandpa perfectly in a recent Facebook post: 'This man was an Army paratrooping risk taker with a childlike heart. He adored his family, loved gardening, woodworking & visiting garage sales. He has completed about a billion jigsaw puzzles, which is probably where I inherited my crazy hobby. He also enjoyed doing word search puzzles and, more importantly, indulged in his favorite butter pecan ice cream every night before bed. This man loved being the center of attention, telling you jokes and then showing you the latest funny comic he cut out or his latest project he was working on building.'

He was laid to rest by his family on March 21, 2023 at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 assisted the family with arrangements.
