Raymond Richard Miethe

Raymond Richard Miethe, age 76, of Georgetown, IL went home to be with his Lord at 5:10 p.m. August 6, 2011. Raymond was a Christian and served the Lord and His Church, from December 17, 1961, the day of his baptism until August 6th, when the Lord called him home. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown, IL. In his local church, Raymond had been a Sunday School teacher to the Primary and Junior age children, and he had taught the adult Live Wire adult Sunday School class for over 39 years. During his 51 years in the church, he had also served as an elder, deacon, chairman of the church board and the chairman of the building and grounds committees. Raymond also had served as president for the Vermilion County Society of Churches of Christ, and had been a fill in preacher for over 30 years to several of the Churches of Christ in Vermilion County, the Homer Church of Christ in Homer, IL, the West Liberty Church of Christ in Covington, IN, as well as his home church. Raymond worked over 33 years as a truck driver for Bredehoft and Ball in Danville, until they closed. He then worked as janitor and bus driver for the Georgetown-Ridge Farm schools, as a facer for John's Food Basket, and as janitor for the Georgetown First National Bank and the First Church of Christ in Georgetown. Raymond was born in Hawbuck to Fred and Emma (Farrell) Miethe on June 21, 1935. He married Edith (Long) Miethe on August 27, 1954. She survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Cheryl Miethe of Danville, Donna Chambers of Westville, and Penny Miethe of Danville; three granddaughters, Hope (Jeremy) Johnson of Georgetown, Kayla (Derrick) Fox, and Kyla Miethe, all of Danville; three great grandchildren, Ariell Rayann Chambers of Westville, Zeke Richard Fox and Samantha Raylynn Johnson of Georgetown; one sister, Teresa Keller of Danville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Raymond Chambers and Eric Miethe, his parents, three brothers, Everett, Fred and Frank, and four sisters, Edna Pridemore, Louise Wagle, Minnie Morgan, Virginia Pridemore, and a special friend, Wid Morgan. At his request, Raymond will be cremated and there is to be no memorial services. Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel will be in charge of burial in the Georgetown Cemetery. The family requests no flowers sent to the home. However, Ray does leave these words with his family and friends. "Remember me if you will, but if you want to see me again, you will have to come to where I am, and come by the Way of the Cross of Jesus Christ. There is no other way. Jesus said, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one will go to the Father except by him."
