Raymond Forrest Mayo passed on February 11, 2025. He was 77. Raymond was born on November 3, 1947, in Noblesville, Indiana. His parents were George Jacob Mayo and Mildred Rosalie (LeMar) Mayo.
When Raymond was born the doctor told his parents that he was very weak and would not live long. Well Raymond outlived his whole family, parents, one brother and two sisters. He also lived longer than his father by five years. He has a sister Georgia Marie (Everett) in California, she is the only one left now. Raymond got the strongest when they moved to Arizona, where he ate a lot of oranges, and he said that’s where his health really picked up and he felt the best.
Raymond and his parents moved to California where he started working for Weiser Lock. He worked hard. He was told that he did the job that two people were doing before and he out did them. When he retired from Weiser Lock the lady that did his paperwork told him she had never found one mistake on his paperwork, and he had worked there for twenty years plus. He took pride in his work. In 1970 his mother passed away and his father got remarried and moved to Arizona because of his health. Raymond said I didn’t leave my family, my family left me. Then Raymond married Virginia Witherspoon on April 20, 1974. They lived in California for ten and a half years until he retired from his job and asked his wife if she wanted to move back to Illinois where the rest of both sides of the family were at. So, they moved back to Illinois. They were married for twenty-five and a half years, then divorced but soon became friends again, and Virginia ended up being Raymonds caregiver. When it would have been their fiftieth wedding anniversary, they went to Red Lobster to celebrate because in God’s eyes they were still married and together a lot. They even took classes at DACC together when they were married. One thing that Raymond would tell Virginia a lot is that he wished that he could fold her up and keep her in his shirt pocket forever. Raymond will be forever loved and missed by Virginia. Raymond is now asleep with Jesus until the Rapture.
A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Monday February 24, 2025, at Forest Park Cemetery in Georgetown, Pastor Michael Flowers will officiate.
