Raymond M. Garretson

Raymond M. Garretson, 74, of Danville passed away at 5:15 pm on Wednesday May 5, 2004 at the Illiana Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville. He was born on February 12, 1930 in South Bend, IN the son of George and Josephine Nolan Garretson. He married Betty Runyan on March 1, 1959 in Danville and she preceded him in death on June 4, 1998 Survivors include four sons: Harold I. (Bonnie) Rife of Paxton, IL, Larry W. (Nancy) Rife of Henning, IL, John E. (Bobette) Rife of Tilton, IL and Raymond Michael (Kim) Garretson of Poway, CA, one brother; G. H. (Laverne) Garretson of Mahomet, IL, one sister: Kayann (Shug) Wagner of Danville, as well as eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Betty. Raymond graduated from Danville High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marine Corps from 1947 until 1951 and had attained the rank of Sergeant. He worked in various positions at the Illiana Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville. When he retired from the VA in 1990 he was in the Supply Services Department. Ray was a sports enthusiast, having a vast sports knowledge, and he was a loyal CUBS and ILINI fan. Most of all he enjoyed just being around home and spending time with his family and friends.
