Newport, Ind. - Raymond E. Clore, 88, of Newport, passed away at his residence on September 12, 2020.
He was born April 6, 1932 in Clinton, Indiana to the late Preston and Lenna (Hatch) Clore.
Raymond graduated from Newport High School and went on to work for general motors until he was called upon to serve his country. He bravely served in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police. Raymond returned to work at General Motors until his retirement at the age of 43. Later, he and his late friend, Jack Burroughs, went into a carpentry partnership for many years. Raymond was also a former member and commander of the American Legion Post 184 in Newport where he coordinated bingo games for many years. In his spare time, Raymond enjoyed playing cards, carpentry work, going to casinos and, when he was younger, hunting and fishing.
In September of 1972, Raymond met his partner of 48 years, Helen VanSickle, and she survives. Other survivors include his six children: Vickie (Jack) Wright, David (Dana) Clore, Tracy Ratliff, Randy VanSickle, Tracy Simonton and Bobbie (Sean) Wilson. Also surviving are15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by two sisters: Lois Shied and Phyllis Murdock; two brother-in-laws, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Per Raymond's request, cremation has been accorded and there will be no services at this time. Raymond's family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is caring for the family.
