Raymond 'Bogie' Bogart

Raymond “Bogie” Bogart, 67, of Danville passed away at 3:42 PM on November 13, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on October 24, 1946 in Danville, the son of Clarence “Duke” and Alice Mae (Grant) Bogart. He was happily married to Sher, his bride of 35 years who still survives. Raymond will be greatly missed by, one daughter, Nikki Bogart of Danville, one son, Todd (Erin) Gross of Danville, four sisters, Joanne (Larry) Langston of Georgetown, IL, Cheryl (Mike Murphy) Bogart of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy (Sam) Hall of Danville, Bonnie (Mike) Jarvis of Danville and his best friend and favorite grandson, Parker T. Gross. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Alan (Kim) Bogart and their son Alan Jr., and one sister, Delores (Jerry) Smith. Raymond was a proud member of the United States Army in 1965-1966 were he was a crew chief on the Medivac helicopter rescue team, 498th Dustoff, in Vietnam. He received many medals and decorations; most notable are the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal along with a hand written accommodation from General Westmoreland. He worked for Ameritech phone company for 30 years before retiring in 2000. Ray loved cleaning and tinkering with classic cars and was known for keeping a well-maintained yard with his Kubota lawn mower. The most important thing to him was walking his favorite grandson Parker T. down to the bus stop every morning and waiting with him to go to school. Ray also enjoyed helping all his family, Todd and Nikki could always count on getting great advice from him and he always found time to tease his sisters. Private services for the family will be held per Raymonds wishes at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded through Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent in Raymonds name to the Danville VA Angels Wings charity or the American Legion Post #210.
