Raymond Ray OHerron, 92, of Danville, Illinois passed away on May 9, 2011 at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville. Ray was born on August 24, 1918 in Decatur, Illinois son of Orion and Goldie (Cook) OHerron. He married Mildred Mary Reuther in May of 1941. She preceded him in death in 1995. Survivors include their two children: Raymond Rocky (Susan) OHerron of Danville and Bobbie Jo OHerron of Danville; Grandchildren: Penny Jo Fredericks, and Tammy Rae (Scott) Talbott, Jason (Wanda), Christopher (Lisa), Michael (Kate), Ryan (Jenny) OHerron ; Great grandchildren: Jared, Justin, Jake Fredericks, Tiffany (John Leahy) White, and Seth Talbott, Ashlyn, Keiran, Camden, Lillian, Peyton, Piper, Vanessa, Emma OHerron, great-great grandchild Rylan Leahy. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Ray was a true entrepreneur. He started Ray OHerron Co. in 1964 out of the trunk of his car, expanding the business to the point of growing out of two locations. Where it is now currently located at 3549 N. Vermilion Street. Ray OHerron Co. Inc. has a expanded second location in Lombard, Illinois, where both businesses serve customers both nationally and worldwide. With Rays retirement, the business in now sustained by the third generation of OHerrons and with the fourth generation working part time while back from college. Ray always had a special place in his heart for his caregivers and also befriended so many people while socializing during his dinners at the Possum Trot and Red Lobster. Ray was honorably discharged and proudly served in the US Army where he served during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 210 and the VFW. He traveled around the world where he actually kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland. His favorite quote was If they hadnt invented whiskey the Irish would rule the world. Ray was a big supporter of the community where he donated a significant gift to the Danville Soccer Complex for the construction of OHerron Soccer Field. A Celebration of Rays Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday May 14, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Connie Moody officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville with Military rites provided by the American Legion Post 210.
