Randy Schlensker, 62, of Paxton, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 14, 1962, to Carl and Gloria Schlensker, Randy was a proud father, devoted grandfather, and a man who believed that showing up for your family was one of life’s most important jobs. He is survived by his siblings, Eileen Morgan (Lebanon, TN) and Mark Schlensker (Broadlands); his children, Val Holden (Nashville, TN), Tara (Dustin) Busboom (Rantoul), Cory Schlensker (Briana Pradzinski) (Worth, IL), and Shelby Schlensker (Paxton); and his grandchildren, Evan Ingalsbe, Kolbie Busboom, and Chloe Schlensker. He was also a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Randy was a 1980 graduate of Rantoul Township High School and spent his career in manufacturing at Eagle Wings Industries, T&D Metals, and Jeld-Wen Industries. But his true calling was being a dad and grandpa. He rarely missed a game, concert, or school event, and was always in the stands—clapping the loudest, offering advice, or ready with a “that’s my kid!” kind of grin. He passed on life lessons large and small—from how to change your oil to how to face challenges with humor and heart.
He loved classic rock, karaoke, shooting pool, Illinois sports, and the Chicago Cubs, but his greatest joy was watching his family grow. His garage was more than a workspace—it was a classroom where he taught hands-on skills, shared laughs, and made memories.
Randy never met a stranger—give him five minutes, and he'd figure out how he knew your uncle, your granddaddy. Whether he was belting out a Three Doors Down ballad or talking smack over a game of pool, Randy brought the laughs, the honesty, and the kind of presence you don’t forget. He was a true original—equal parts tough and tender, stubborn and sentimental.
Randy’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and loyalty. He will be remembered for his big personality, generous heart, and unwavering commitment to the people he loved most.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family invites friends to honor Randy’s memory at a celebration of life on Saturday, May 10th from 4-7 p.m. at the Royal Community building with a toast in Randy’s honor at 5:30.
Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Lux Chapel 1551 E. Grove Ave. Rantoul, IL 61866, is honored to be assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
