Randall Randy Ross Pate, 78, of Danville, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Randy was born on May 13th, 1932 in Warton, West Virginia, the son of Albert and Oral (Lappin) Pate. He married Betty J. Dolbee Brooks on August 17th, 1956 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter- Carole (Jon) Hafner of Danville; four sons- Michael (Evelyn) Brooks of Doyline, Louisiana, Randy (Diana) Brooks of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Karl (Stefanie) Schnur Hainburg, Germany and Ron (Linda) Pate of Naples, Florida; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law- Roy (Dorothy) Dolbee of Catlin; sisters-in-law- Donna Pollard of Westville and Pamela (Jack) Freeman of Battleground, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and five sisters. Randy served in the United States Army for four years. He worked for General Motors for 30 years, until retiring in 1976. After retiring, he worked as a handyman around the area. He was a member of Central Park Church of Christ and Harrison Park Golf Course. Randy enjoyed wood working, working in his yard, walking, riding his bike and most of all golfing. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing. Randys biggest goal was helping people. A Celebration of Randys life will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13th, 2011 at Sunsets Chapel Mausoleum, with Pastor Raimie Gordon officiating. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration home is in charge of arrangements.
