Randall Lee “Randy” Thornton, 59 of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 7:31 AM at his home. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly Thornton of Georgetown; his children, Trisha Thornton of Scottsdale, Arizona and Benjamin Thornton of Georgetown; two brothers, Donnie (Clara) Thornton of Danville and Ronnie Thornton of Home Gardens; and his special aunt, Jane Stroud of Highland, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Dorothy Thornton. Randy was born May 22, 1955 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Benjamin and Dorothy (Toler) Thornton. He married Shelly Grubb on August 15, 1987 at Georgetown First Church of Christ. Randy worked for Big R Stores since 1990. He previously worked at the Ben Franklin in Georgetown since he was a little boy. Randy loved landscaping, gardening, and was involved with the Master Gardeners. He also liked woodworking. Randy was known as a “Jack of all trades”. Above all, Randy loved to spend time with his family, friends and dogs. A celebration of Randys life will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 East West Street, Georgetown, IL. Pastor John Myers will be officiating. Burial will follow at Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 PM Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials be made to the account set up in Randys name at First National Bank in Georgetown.
