Ramon Darrell Hughes

Ramon "Darrell" Hughes II, 56, of Covington, Indiana passed away at 7:19pm CST on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa, Illinois. He was born on February 15, 1956 in DeRidder, Louisiana, the son of Ramon Darrell Hughes and Marian Lee (Powell) Hughes. He married Cindy (Meyer) Hayman on July 14, 1979. Survivors include his mother, Marian, his two daughters, Rebecca (Randall) Orr of Covington, IN, and Sara Hughes of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Austin, Abby, and Allie, all of Covington. His father Ramon preceded him in death in November 2011. Darrell graduated from Covington High School in 1974, and went on to graduate from Wabash College in 1978, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He later became President of R.D. Hughes Farm, Inc., and had also been employed with RGIS Inventory Services for the past ten years. He enjoyed spending time with his two daughters, and his three grandchildren. They enjoyed trips to King's Island, Orlando, FL, and the Wisconsin Dells. Darrell also enjoyed many sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers. He was an avid water skier and enjoyed science fictions novels. He will be sadly missed by all. A Celebration of the Life of Ramon "Darrell" Hughes II has been scheduled for 8:00pm EST on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Sunset's Covington Chapel located at 420 3rd Street in Covington, IN. Drew Mentzer has been asked by the family to officiate the service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8pm EST on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the funeral home, just prior to the service. Per Darrell's wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral service under the direct supervision of Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Home, A Life Celebration Home, located in Danville.
