Ralph G Knight Jr., 76, of Danville, passed away peacefully January 14, 2022. He was born February 16, 1945, in Gary, Indiana to Matilda (Young) Knight and Ralph Knight.
Ralph grew up on Sherman Street in Danville, IL. He was a car enthusiast and restored a 1941 Ford pickup in a garage he built. From 1963-1984 he worked at Conron, Inc. He married Verlene Taylor in 1971 and moved to Oakwood, Illinois. He began working construction in 1984. With Taylor Bros, he helped move the Lamon house to Lincoln Park. He worked for Joe Wise contracting in Westville where demolition was his favorite job. He took great pride and joy in setting fires so that a building would burn completely down and look good while it burned. Ralph later took a job with T. K. Fleming Construction.
In the 1990s he spent his free time working on classic cars with his friend Lewie Johnson of Oakwood.
In later life, he spent many quiet years feeding squirrels and birds and enjoying the company of his dog. He moved to a smaller home on Douglas Ave. in Danville, IL where was blessed with good neighbors. His caregiver was Jackie Smith. Jackie and Ralph became good friends, and she was the bright spot in his days.
Ralph is survived by his daughter Stacey Knight-Davis of Charleston, IL, son-in-law Glen Davis, and his grandson Lucian Davis. The family thanks Transitions Hospice for their care.
