Ralph Edward Tutwiler Sr., 75, of Danville, passed away at 8:59 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2006 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Ralph was born on January 19, 1931 in Potomac, Illinois, the son of Edward Samuel and Alma R. (Allison) Tutwiler. He married Phyllis Lathrop on July 1, 1950 in Danville. She survives. He is survived by her one son-Ralph Edward Tutwiler Jr. of Danville; one daughter- Lindia Tutwiler of Tilton; six grandchildren- Stanley Shane Grider of Tilton, Greggie Rouse of Oakwood, Ralph E. (Laura) Tutwiler III of Mascoutah, Illinois, James Wesley Tutwiler of Danville, Sirina Marie Hitlette of Danville, and Mark Alan Tutwiler II of Danville; three step-grandchildren- Chyann Cheesman of Oakwood, Cody (Lindsay) Cheesman of Florida, and Whisper Cheesman of Oakwood; seven great-grandchildren- Rancey Nicole Rouse of Oakwood, Roarie Rigsby of Oakwood, Dakota Hitlette of Danville, Blake Hitlette of Danville, Taylor Hitlette of Danville, Mark Alan Tutwiler III of Danville, and Jasmine Tutwiler of Danville; two more great-grandchildren on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, one son Mark Alan Tutwiler Sr.; two grandsons- Samuel Arthur Tutwiler and Daniel Wayne Tutwiler; and one brother- Leonard Tutwiler. Ralph worked at General Motors for 45 years until he retired on February 28, 1993. He served from 1952-1954 in the United States Marines. He was president of the Fairmount Conservation Club for several years and was currently an honorary member. Ralph loved to spend his time outdoors, either camping fishing or boating. He enjoyed working out in his garden and mowing his yard. He loved to spend his time being with his grandchildren. A celebration of the life of Ralph Edward Tutwiler will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Curt Darling officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be held at Danville National Cemetery, with full military rites to be performed by the American Legion Post #210. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
