Ralph B. Jones

Champaign - Ralph B. Jones, 83, of Champaign, passed away at 4:25 AM on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Presence Covenant in Urbana. He was born on June 8, 1933 in Chicago to Bernard and Grace Jones. He married Aileen Jones in April of 1960 in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 2008. He is survived by a son, Mike Jones; a daughter-in-law, Joni Dodge; two sisters; and two granddaughters, Chelsea and Hannah Babey. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Christine, his parents, two sisters, a step-mother, and a brother-in-law. After high school, Ralph served his country in the United States Air Force. Upon his return, he began work as a police officer in Chicago. Ralph served on the Chicago Police Department until his retirement after 42 years. Aside from his work, he also enjoyed Classical Music and Theater and was a member of the Hay's 50 Plus Club. A service to celebrate the life of Ralph Jones will be held at 5 PM on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Sunset's Champaign-Urbana Chapel at 710 N. Neil St. in Champaign. Pastor Jim Blue will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the services. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM prior to the service on Monday, also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
