Rachel Sue Shannon

Rachel Sue Shannon, 71 of Westville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM at her home surrounded by her loving family. Rachel was born December 21, 1945, the daughter of Carroll and Mary Wegar Lawson, in Akron, OH. She married Dale Shannon on October 14, 2000 at Christian Union Church in Covington, IN. He survives. Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie (Brett) Bean and their two sons, Alec and Andrew Bean, all of Mahomet; step-son, Danny (Denise) Shannon and sons, Kyle and Travis Shannon, of Catlin; step-son, Dennis (Sheri) Shannon of Westville and their son, DJ (Kate) and their children, Brayden, Addison, and William Shannon of New Jersey; step-daughter, Erin (Todd) Gross and son, Parker, of Westville; brother, Andy Lawson of Collison; three sisters, Fran Lawson of WV, Nancy Dean of Danville, and Jane Summers of Covington; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William "Bill" Lawson. Rachel graduated from Perrysville High School in 1963 and Lakeview Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1966, working 41 years as a registered nurse. She was involved in PHS Alumni association. Rachel was a member of Christian Union Church where she was a very active member. She enjoyed playing the organ for church services. She also enjoyed making wreaths and button bracelets. Most of all she enjoyed doing things with her grandchildren. A special thank you to Dr. Labayog and everyone at Provena Cancer Center as well as Iroquois Memorial Hospice. A celebration of Rachel's life will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State Street, Westville. Pastor Tony DeMoss will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Christian Union Church.
