R. Eugene 'Gene' Voyles

R. Eugene Gene Voyles, 66, of Ridge Farm went to be with his lord and savior at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday February 24, 2009, at Provena USMC, Danville. He was born on April 6, 1942, the son of Russell G. and Vivian May (Collom) Voyles. He was united in marriage to Sarah Jo Murray on December 22, 1968, in Ridge Farm. She will miss him dearly. Others who will miss him include: his mother, Vivian Voyles of Ridge Farm; his son Danny Andrews of Mattoon; his daughters, Lisa Grupe of Westville, Shelly Pierre of Georgia; Trudie Edmonds of Tennessee, Betty Langford of Perry, FL, Melody Voyles of Hoopeston, & Emily Neukirch of Westville; his several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, Robert Bob (Susie Malkus) Voyles of Fairmount; and a special friend, Paul Barna of Cayuga, IN. He was preceded in death by: his father, Russell; and a sister, Carolyn Scarlett. Gene was a member of the Ridge Farm Church of the Nazarene, as well as a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841 since 1970. He was owner of the Voyles Construction for 35 years; he was passionate about his work. His hobbies included tending his beautiful rose beds and feeding the birds in the backyard. He also loved helping and spending time with his children & grandchildren. He really enjoyed vacationing during the winter time. A celebration of Genes life will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, February 27, 2009, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. Pastor Chuck Davis will officiate. Visitation will be 4pm - 8pm, Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm.
