Cayuga, Ind. - Phyllis L. Self, 84, a resident of The Waters of Williamsport for the past eight years and formerly of Cayuga, passed away at 4:27 p.m. EDT Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born July 8,1929 in Vermillion County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Forrest B. and Celia J. Snyder Fortner. She married Carl Self and he preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Karla(Mark)Pasley of Cayuga, Indiana and Marsha(Bruce)Stevenson of Covington, Indiana; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Delores(Norman)Haga of Blanchard, Louisiana; Janice(Leonard)McBride of Cayuga, Indiana and Priscilla(Bill)Nash of Sandborn, Indiana; one brother, Phil Fortner of Cayuga, Indiana; sister-in-law, Donna Fortner of Rockville, Indiana; several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Ann Bishop of Eugene, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Jacob Ellis; sister and her husband, Linda(Norman)Johnson; brother, Larry Fortner; sister-in-law and her husband, Martha(Ernest)Aupperle and special friend, Opal Craft. Phyllis was a homemaker. She attended the Grape Creek Baptist Church in Danville, Illinois. She was a 1947 graduate of Cayuga High School. Phyllis enjoyed crocheting and visiting with friends and her family. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff of The Waters of Williamsport for the care they showed their mom. Don Morgan; Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Visitation 10 a.m. EDT until time of services at the funeral home.
