Danville- Phyllis J. Blackwell, 85, of Danville passed away at 6:50 AM on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at North Logan Healthcare in Danville. She was born in Rossville, IL on February 6, 1925 to Alvin and Eva McCoy Weingand. She married Robert Huffman in July of 1945. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1968. She then married Joe Blackwell on April 16, 1971. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2002. Surviving are a son Brad (Barb) Huffman of Dacula, GA; two daughters, Chris Huffman of Danville and Jodi Coffman, also of Danville; and five grandchildren Kyle Huffman of Des Moines, IA, Andrew Huffman of Vienna, Austria, Ashley Coffman, Zachary Carlson, and Logan Coffman all of Danville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and two sisters, Mary Weingand and Nelsie Miller. Phyllis was a secretary for many years at Blue Cross/Blue Shield and was a faithful member at First Presbyterian Church in Rossville where she enjoyed participating in church functions. She liked football and Cardinals Baseball, playing cards, crossword puzzles, camping, fishing, and traveling. Phyllis also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. A memorial gathering for Phyllis Blackwell will take place on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 4-7 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will take place at Manns Chapel Cemetery in Rossville at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Rossville or to the Alzheimers Association. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
