Phillip Dompe, Sr., 75 of Westville, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 6:00 AM at Burgin Manor in Olney. He was born June 6, 1941 in Danville the son of Domenico and Gina "Jean" {Bertelli} Dompe. Surviving are his children, Tammy (Kip) Cheesman of Newport, IN, Phillip (Dana) Dompe, Jr. of Flat Rock, Gina (Mike) Peoples, and Tony Dompe of Georgetown; grandchildren, Joshua (Lauren) Cook, Katelyn (Rex) Loden, Kensie (Sheldon) Alexander, Kristina (Brad) Buchanan, Mercede Sanders, Keenan Boewe, Makayla Hargrave, and Britney Dompe; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Loden, Kayden and Emma Alexander, and Clayton and McKenzie Buchanan; sister, Donna Ceader of Georgetown; special friends, Rick, Austin, and Rose Johnson of Home Gardens, Jerry Pataki, and Billy Eldridge; and many other loving friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Peter Dompe; and great-grandson, Lincoln James Loden. Phillip ran his own Marathon gas station in Westville and later worked at Material and Fuel, retiring in 2004. He was also a firefighter in Westville. He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. Phillip was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville and was a Past Commander of the Westville American Legion Post #51. He liked to spend time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Phillip loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and his grandkids play sports. When his children were younger he was involved in Cub Scouts with them. A Celebration of Phillip's Life will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 South State Street, Westville. Fr. Timothy Sauppe will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Westville. Military honors will be performed by the Westville American Legion Post #51 honor guard. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials in Phillip's name can be made to Toys for Tots or his family.
