Philip S. Lopinski

Philip Stanley Lopinski, 86, of Springfield, IL. passed away at 2:25 PM Tuesday September 7, 2004 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village Nursing Home in Springfield. He was born April 1, 1918 in Georgetown, the son of Walter C. and Lena B. (Ruthowski) Lopinski. Philip married Dorothy Juanita Stuebe on December 24, 1942. She survives. Survivors include one son, Jim S. ( Sara A.) Lopinski, of Springfield , one brother, John Henry "Hank" ( Betty ) Lopinski of Georgetown and two granddaughters, Ann Marie, and Lynn Marie, of Springfield. One Brother and three sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Lopinski had worked as core inspector in the core room at the General Motors Foundry in Tilton for thirty years retiring in 1979. He had resided most of his adult life in Danville and childhood in Georgetown. During World War II, Mr. Lopinski served as a private first class rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant 4 in the Army. His overseas duty included the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, the Southern Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea. He received three bronze stars, four overseas bars, a Campaign Ribbon-Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. Philip was member of VFW Post 728 in Danville.
