Philip Phil Matthew Macieiski, 52, of Danville passed away at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Phil was born on October 27, 1956 in Chester, Illinois, the son of Stanley and Oneta (Racine) Macieiski. He married Ellen Strotz on December 18, 1976 in Chester, Illinois. He is survived by his mother- Oneta Macieiski of Benton, Illinois; wife-Ellen Macieiski of Danville; one son- Matthew Macieiski of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three daughters- Anna Cheesman of Tilton, Emily Macieiski and Grace Macieiski both of Danville; one brother- Stanley Macieiski of New Orleans, Louisiana; two sisters- Cindy Macieiski of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Trudy (George) Reynolds of Georgia; three grandchildren- Kamryn and Ellie Cheesman of Tilton and Alexander Macieiski of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Phil graduated from Chester High School in 1974. Following high school he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and later transferred to Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in Biology. Phil began working at Danville Correctional Facility in 1989 as a Correctional Officer. He later became a sergeant, lieutenant and most recently served as a Major. Early in his career he was a member of the tactical team at the prison. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing with his dog-Chelsea, working out, science, being outdoors, listening to classic rock and watching the news and the History Channel on T.V. Phil will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial visitation for Philip Phil Matthew Macieiski will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter or the Danville Humane Society. According to Phils wishes, he will be cremated.
