Philip Mark Seimer

Muncie Philip Mark Seimer, 85, of Muncie passed away at 1:11 AM on Monday, February 13, 2023 at home with his family. He was born August 3, 1937 in Danville, IL to Wilber Marquis and Cynthia Hildred (Clements) Seimer.

Mark married his high school sweetheart, Reita Jane Kirkpatrick, November 1, 1955. In this union they had two sons, Douglas Franklin Seimer and Todd Philip Seimer. Reita preceded him in death April 20, 2005.

Mark then married his high school classmate Sara Williams Laker on January 19, 2011. She survives.

Also surviving are his son, Doug (Betty) Seimer, stepchildren Dave (Mary Ann) Laker and Sam (Linda) Laker, step grandson, Zac Edwards, and many other friends and family.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by his son Todd Seimer and step daughter Laura Payne.

Mark attended Muncie Grade School and graduated from Oakwood High School. He also served in the United States Marine Reserve. He was a Boy Scout supporter, only lacking one merit badge from Eagle Scouts and had visited Valley Forge in 1952 and Philmont Scout Ranch in 1953.

He worked for New York Central Railroad, United Electric Coal Mine, Amex Coal Mine, and in 1970 began work for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He retired as the supervisor for the Fithian IDOT facility.

Mark served on the Muncie Village Board for 48 years, as a School Board member for nine years, and was School Board President for seven years. He also served on the Stearns Cemetery Board since 1965 and received his 50 year pin from the Collison Masonic Lodge. Muncie Baptist church was a big part of Marks life. He was a life member and served on the Deacon Board.

He started farming with his dad in 1953. He loved the farm and continued to farm with his sons, Doug and Todd.

Mark was young at heart and his family called him an "old teenager." He was a wonderful husband, loving and caring dad and stepdad, and a true friend to many. Mark lived by the four "Fs"; Faith, Family, Farm, and Friends.

The family would like to extend thanks to Marks hospice team, caregiver Jane Huchel, and special thank you to Carla Shafer for all of their wonderful care.

A service to celebrate the life of Philip Mark Seimer will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Muncie Baptist Church in Muncie, IL. Pastor Todd Creason will officiate. Burial will follow at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muncie Baptist Church.
