Danville Philip Charles Turner, 75, of Danville went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:35 PM on August 27, 2021 at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana, IL.
Philip was born on March 16, 1946 the son of Charles Edgar and Rebecca Jane (Cameron) Turner in Jamestown, NY. He married Eileen Bird on August 24,1968 in Geneseo, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eileen Turner of Danville, one son, Douglas (Catherine) Turner of Lexington, KY, one daughter, Michelle (Kiley) Garrison of Danville, IL, eight grandchildren, Micaela (Max) Nash, Cameron (Bethany) Turner, Kelsey Turner, Moriah Turner, Madison Turner, Abigail Garrison, Rebecca Garrison and Stephen Garrison, as well as one great-grandchild, Teagan Nash, one sister, Carol (Alan) Roth of Wichita, KS and one brother, Arthur (Ann) Turner of Manhattan, MT.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents.
Phil began his life of ministry in 1974 in St Regis Falls, NY. He faithfully served the Lord in the church and also as a Music/Bible teacher at Faith Heritage School until he fully retired in 2011. Loving God and loving people was what motivated Phil to get out of bed every day. He loved his wife fully. They celebrated 53 years of marriage on August 24th. His family mattered to him more than anyone. His grandkids found him in the stands at events, sending texts, praying over them. Although retired, Phil was not one to ever sit on the sidelines long. He quickly found a love of serving people and championing them as part of the leadership team for Celebrate Recovery at Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL. His passion for seeing living things grow was not only found in discipleship of thousands over his decades of ministry but also in his incredible green thumb. No one could make a Christmas Cactus or Violet bloom like he was able to create. You didn't have to know him very long to know several things about him: He loved the Lord. He loved his family. He would welcome you in, no matter who you were or where you had been. He will be remembered not only for those things, but also for his love of music, his love of a corny joke, his super tight hugs, and the way his eyes would light up when someone he cared about walked in the room. Phil never let his type 1 diabetes be a reason for complaining, or taking the easy road. He found joy and purpose even in the hard things, trusting his Father's plan. The ripples of his life have been touched by many and will be felt for generations to come in the legacy of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Second Church of Christ 3350 East Voorhees Street, Danville, IL, 61834. Douglas Turner will officiate.
