James “Phil” Young, 78, of Danville, passed away on March 4, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Phil was born on July 28, 1936 in Crawfordsville, IN, the son of Ward Beecher and Edith (Sidener) Young. He married Phyllis Schreiner on June 6, 1957 in Crawfordsville, IN and she survives. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis Young, children; Mark (Stacey) Young, Craig (Jackie) Young and Deanna Young Hooper; brother, Thomas Austin (Sharman) Young, brother-in-law, Harold (Betty) Schreiner, grandchildren; Jeffrey (Samantha) Young, Austin and Brighton Young, Stephani and Taylor Young, Alexandria, Derek and Carlie Hooper; great grandchildren, Eleanor Young, Kyleigh Grace Hooper and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Alan Young. Phil graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1954 and attended Purdue University that fall. He graduated from Purdue in 1958 with his Bachelors degree in Pharmaceuticals. While at Purdue Phil was a member of the marching band as a percussionist. After graduation he worked as a pharmacist for 50 years before retiring from Wal-Mart in 2008. Phil was very involved in the Lutheran church both in Greencastle, IN and Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville, IL. He served on various boards and even in the choir. He was a member of the Covington Jaycees and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping, traveling to Florida in the winters and spending time with family. He was blessed with a unique sense of humor that he enjoyed sharing with all that would listen. A celebration of Phils life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. He will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery in Danville, IL.
