Terre Haute, Ind. - Phil K. Porter, 71, of Terre Haute and formerly of Cayuga, passed away at 10:25 a.m. EDT Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his residence. He was born July 18, 1942 in Clinton, Indiana the son of the late James W. and Dorothy L. Grubbs Porter. He married Linda L. Norman on November 7, 1961 in Newport, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his three sons, Keith(Charity)Porter of Terre Haute, Indiana; Brian(Tabatha)Porter of St. Petersburg, Florida and Darin(Laura)Porter of Clarks Hill, Indiana; four grandchildren, Marshall and Autumn of Terre Haute, Indiana and Tyler and Bekah of Lafayette, Indiana; one sister, Diane(James)Wittenauer of Ft. Myers, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Phil retired in 2005 from Farm Bureau Insurance in Lafayette, Indiana. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force. Phil was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church and American Legion Post 104 both in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a 1960 graduate of Cayuga High School. Phil enjoyed all sports and traveling. He especially enjoyed coaching his three sons baseball teams. Phil was a loving husband and father and special friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Deacon Mike: Burial with honors by the Terre Haute American Legion Post 104: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, April 8, 2014 with a Rosary service immediately following. Contributions may be made to the Hospice VNA of the Wabash Valley, 400 8th Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804.
