Penny S. Watkins

Cayuga, Ind. - Penny S. Watkins, 49, of Cayuga, passed away at 6:40 a.m. EDT Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born March 22, 1963 in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Franklin D. and Rose L. Steeples Freed. She married Steven W. Watkins on March 9, 1994 in Eugene, Indiana. He survives. Other survivors include her mother, Rose Freed of Cayuga, Indiana; father and mother in law, Charles(Marjorie)Watkins of Eugene, Indiana; two sisters, Evelyn Freed of Cayuga, Indiana and Sheryl Richards of Georgetown, Illinois; two brothers, Dale(Loretta)Freed of Cayuga, Indiana and John(Dawn)Freed of Covington, Indiana; special nephew, Cody Richards, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; two sisters, June Ellen Freed and Edna P. Woodard; niece, Amy L. Woodard. Penny was a cook at North Vermillion Elementary, last working in November 2011. She and her husband Steven, are part owners of the Covered Bridge Restaurant in Eugene, Indiana. Penny attended the Cayuga Church of the Nazarene. She was a 1982 graduate of North Vermillion High School. Penny enjoyed collecting angels, baking, watchng Chicago Cubs baseball and Indiana University basketball. Most of all she enjoyed making people happy. Funeral services: 10 a.m. EDT Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Cayuga Church of the Nazarene; Officiating: Rev. Don Morgan; Burial: Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Sunday, May 20, 2012 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana, and one hour prior to services on monday at the church.
