Penny Jo Felix, 50, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 8:30 p.m. est. Wednesday, February 11, 2009, peacefully at her home, after a long illness, with her family by her side. Penny was born on May 24, 1958 in Danville, the daughter of Jack and Kathryn (Gephart) Peterson. She was first married to David Hinchman, with whom she had a son. She later married Dan Felix on August 21, 1985 in Largo, Florida. He survives. She is survived by her mother, one son-John David (Vivian) Hinchman; one sister- Karen (Ricky) Haner and their son-Matthew; one step-son- Keith (Jeanie) Felix; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, maternal grandparents- Herb and Mary Spurgeon and a brother- Jerry. Penny attended Danville Schools graduating from Danville High School in 1976 and was offered a music scholarship for her cello playing. Penny started her nursing career by first attending DACCs School of Nursing, where she graduated as an LPN and then several years later attended the nursing program at Parkland College to graduate as a RN in 1991. Penny worked at Lakeview (USMC) Hospital for several years and then later worked for Carle Homecare in Danville. She enjoyed the one on one care that being a homecare nurse provided. She was a true patient advocate making sure her patients always had the care they deserved. When Penny could no longer work she still continued to educate herself to keep up with current medicine by reading medical books, magazines and doing searches on the internet. She was always willing to help friends and family with any medical questions or concerns they may have. Penny enjoyed many things I life. Some were music, movies and plays, gardening, quilting, reading, antiquing, working on the computer and watching her favorite T.V. show, Greys Anatomy. She also looked forward to yearly trips to Tennessee with her husband Dan to stay at a cabin in the mountains where she felt very much at home. She also enjoyed special times with her grandson Davey, watching their favorite cartoon together Sponge Bob. She looked forward to being with friends, family and will be missed by all including her constant companion Polly the Pug.
