Penny J. Smith, 50, of Covington, passed away at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 15, 1963 in Great Bend, KS to Robert and Mary Jane Ryerson Weaver. She had been married to Brad Cruea with whom she had one son, and later Craig Smith. She is survived by one son Tra (Macy Puff) Cruea of Covington; fianc Chad Holmes of Covington; a step-son, Josh Holmes; seven siblings, Jim Weaver, Kevin Weaver, Craig (Becky) Weaver, Curtis Weaver, Lori Hall, Mitch (Wendy) Weaver, Luke (Nikki) Weaver; a granddaughter, Ava Grace Cruea; mother-in-law Ruth Duncan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Penny had worked for 20 years as a tour guide at the Spring Creek Welcome Center on I74. Following that she began cleaning houses. Penny was a sports fanatic, but especially loved Bobby Knight and Indiana University. She was also an Indianapolis Colts fan and a softball player and was active as a coach and umpire in her sons little league teams. Penny enjoyed her annual trip with her girlfriends to the Covered Bridge Festival. Along with her fellow Georgetown High School Class of 81 classmates, she began the pretty baby contest at the Georgetown Fair which still goes on today. A service to celebrate the life of Penny Smith will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Sunsets Covington Chapel a Life Celebration Home in Covington, IN. Jerry Holmes will officiate. Cremation rites will follow. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Sunday, January 26, also at Sunset in Covington. Memorials may be made to Pennys family to assist with funeral arrangements.
