Peggy J. Black

Danville – Peggy J. Black, 79, of Danville, passed away at 6:47 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Goldwater Care of Danville. She was born September 3, 1946, in Danville to Everett and Eleanor (Heyen) Scipio. She married James F. Black on November 27, 1988, in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2013.

She is survived by several second and third cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Peggy had previously worked for Peterson-Puritan. She was a talented accordion player and would travel to area nursing homes to play for the holidays. Peggy enjoyed entertaining the residents with her music, complete with festive costumes.

A service to celebrate the life of Peggy Black will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Monsignor James Cruze will officiate. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM prior to the service on Tuesday, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in her name may be made to Catholic Charities USA.
