Paul Jestin Trahan, 90, of Effingham, formerly of Georgetown, Illinois, passed away on April 25, 2025, at Lakeland Health Care, in Effingham, Illinois. Jestin was born in Kaplan, Louisiana, first born son of Challie and Neubrey (Granger) Trahan on August 5, 1934. Jestin married his wife LaVonne Chrisinger in May of 1958, they enjoyed 62 years together until her passing April 17, 2021.
Jestin leaves behind his children; daughter Jestine R. Pierce and son Raoul (Lynn) Trahan, grandchildren; Paulette Pierce, Paul Trahan, Tyler Sharp, and Taylor Sharp, brother; Bennett (Gerry) Trahan. Jestin was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Jestin was a teacher for Georgetown Ridge Farm Schools where he had a big impact on a lot of students and a great relationship with other staff members. He was the chess club sponsor and was instrumental in bringing competitive scholastic chess to central Illinois. His love for chess was huge, having students to their home and helping them learn and master the art of chess. Jestin and his family lived in a beautiful home on Third Street where their neighbors were like family and everyone watched out for each other and helped each other. He enjoyed playing the harmonica. Jestin will be missed by all that knew him. The family has trusted Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Houghton-Leasure Chapel with taking care of cremation.
