Paul Powell, 64, of Danville, IL passed away November 13, 2006 at VA Illiana Health Care Systems. He was born April 22, 1942 in Danville son of Palmer I. and Ary M. Powell. Survivors include siblings: Art Powell of Danville, Oscar (Catherine) Powell of Danville, Charlie (Lula Powell) Stark of Georgetown, Robert Powell of Seattle, WA, Steve (Crystal) Powell of Henning, Millie Powell of Maryland, and William Powell of Romeoville, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Floyd Powell and Donald Powell, and sister: Mary Lou Powell. Paul served in the U.S. Military from May 1960 to May 1963 as a heavy weapon infantryman SPEC-4. Medals include: Armed Forces expeditionary medal, Army occupation medal, Good conduct medal, and was a Sharpshooter. Paul was an avid fisherman. He worked from 1964-1975 as a brick mason for various construction companies, 1976-1985 he worked in Alaska, 1986-1990 he worked in construction in Wyoming. He has resided in the Danville VA Medical Center since 1991. He will be sadly missed by family and friends and a special sister-in-law Crystal K. Powell. Who devoted several days a month to outings and seeing to his needs while he was at the VA Medical Center. A Celebration of Pauls life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 17, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center; 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Bethel cemetery in Blount Township with military honors by the Korean War Veterans. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
