Obituary: Paul E. Maudlin (1933–2025)
Paul E. Maudlin, 92, of Hoffman Estates, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2025.
A Life of Purpose and Simplicity Born in Danville, IL, on April 29, 1933, to Charles and Amy Ruth Maudlin, Paul was raised on a farm outside Georgetown, IL. These early years shaped his lifelong commitment to hard work, responsibility, and perseverance. An engineer by trade and a graduate of the General Motors Institute, Paul viewed the world through a lens of straightforward simplicity and productivity. He held a deep-seated belief that life was best lived without unnecessary ornamentation, finding true value in things that were functional, honest, and well-made.
Family and Legacy Paul married the love of his life, Bonita Joan Wills, on June 6, 1954, in Charleston, IL. Together, they built a foundation of faith and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose industrious spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Beyond his work, Paul was a gifted storyteller. With an animated spirit and a sharp wit, he filled his family’s lives with tales of the land, laughter, and practical wisdom. These stories—and the lessons of integrity they carry—remain his lasting gift to his descendants.
Survivors and Precedents Paul is survived by his daughters, Mary Maudlin Moltzan (James) and Cherri Maudlin Doud (Dustan); his sisters, Sara Donahue, Easter Joan Stanley, Vera Pauline Maudlin, and Martha Marie Brown; his seven grandchildren, Paul Dooley, Susan O’Connell (Ross), Henry Doud, Maxwell Moltzan, Quinn Doud, Victoria Moltzan, and Tessa Doud; and his two great-grandchildren, Brodie and Logan O’Connell, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonita Joan Maudlin; his daughter, Teresa Stephens; and his brother, John Maudlin.
