Paul M Arford

Paul M. Arford, 79, of Danville passed away on October 12, 2018 at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Born on March 8, 1939 in Henning, IL, the son of Wilbur and Inez (Vickers) Arford, he was first married to Beverly (Spain) Stewart, with whom he had his two sons. In October of 1979, he married Doris Arford, who preceded him in death in 2012. A graduate of Henning High School, Paul enlisted in the Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. Following his discharge, he worked 34 years as a welder at then Bohn Aluminum / Heatcraft until his retirement in 1999. Paul was devoted to his family and friends. Probably perceived by most as a man of few words, Paul demonstrated his thoughtfulness and consideration for others through his actions. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix and he found relaxation in completing countless custom projects built in his garage. Consistent with his character, he focused on function with the results of his projects reflecting the artistic quality of his craftmanship. When he wasn't helping others, Paul had a few hobbies. An avid fisherman, he especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his son. And, while he was a competitive golfer, the stories from his golf outings usually focused on the time he spent with his friends. In more recent years he also found much enjoyment in his travels with close friends. But, undoubtedly, his favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren play sports. He never missed a game. GO BLUEDEVILS! Paul is survived by his two sons, Greg (Omekia) Arford of Bismarck, IL; Darren (Monique) Arford of Georgetown, IL; three step-daughters, Sharon Beninato of Grimes, IA; Jean (Jon) Bright of Tilton, IL; and Nancy (Dan) Brown of Danville, IL; seven grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) Romero, Jordan (Ross Caraker) Arford, Colten Arford; Justin and Lindsey Brown; Breely and Hannah Arford; two special great-grandchildren, Grayson and Myles Romero; brother, Jack (Barb) Arford of Andover, MN; sister, Janet (Jack) Mooberry of Peoria, IL; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hussong of Mattoon, IL; and Barbara (Gene) Minder of Lake Forest, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother-in-law, Norman Hussong. Paul will be sadly missed by family and friends. A heartfelt recognition of his kindness and contribution to others will be addressed through a Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Bruce Thornsbough officiating. Burial will be in Potomac Cemetery in Potomac, IL with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210.
