Oakwood – Paul Allen Hedges, 83, of Tilton, formerly of Oakwood, passed away at 9:20 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on September 13, 1942, in Danville to Farrel and Mary (Shrout) Lucas. He married his loving wife, Donna Kay Dickson, on February 23, 1962, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Christy (Greg) Wagers of Danville, Robin (Michael) Twidwell of Champaign, and Erik (Tawne) Hedges of Danville; seven grandchildren, Paige, Blair, Nick, Kaylynn, Halle, Daine, and Gannon; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert and Don.

Allen worked for many years at Win C. Smith Automotive in Danville, first as the Parts Manager and later as the Director of Operations. He left Win C. Smith to open the Illiana Toyota Dealership which he operated until his retirement. Allen’s extensive knowledge also allowed him to teach Automotive at VOTEC in Danville for two years. He was an avid Fighting Illini and Chicago Cubs Fan and enjoyed playing a round of golf when he was able. Allen was also a seasoned outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and spend time in nature in his free time. He loved animals of all kinds, especially the various pets he kept close throughout his life. Most of all, Allen loved his family. He was a dedicated husband, dad, and grandpa and always did his best to provide and be present for them.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Allen Hedges will be held at 10 AM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Sunset’s Oakwood Chapel, 105 E. South Main St., Oakwood, IL 61858. Pastor Trevor Oetting and Pastor Patti Wise will officiate. Urn burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, July 16, also at Sunset’s Oakwood Chapel. Memorials in Allen’s name may be made to the Humane Society or Oakwood United Methodist Church.
