Danville - Paul K. Greene, 100, of Danville, went to be with the Lord Jesus at 12:22 PM on February 18, 2023.
Paul was born July 2, 1922 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Harley A. and Minnia (Allen) Greene. He married Ethel W. Hilgeman on June 19, 1948, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Danville. Ethel preceded him in death on March 18, 2009.
Paul is survived by two sons, Paul (Vicki) Greene of Willowbrook, IL, and Dr. Gary A. Greene of Berwyn, IL; one granddaughter, Kathryn (Benjamin) Jacob; two great grandsons, Judah and Beau Jacob, one great granddaughter, Willa Jacob, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by parents, his wife, two brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Paul graduated from Danville High School in 1941, and attended Danville Business School. He later attended the University of Idaho and took some courses from LaSalle University. Paul joined the Army in 1942, and served until March 1946. He served as a First Sergeant in the European Theatre of Operations, received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against the enemy during the Rhineland Campaign, and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the European Theatre Ribbon with two Battle Stars and other awards.
Paul was a member of Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church and recently was attending Ridgeview Baptist Church. He had been a Sunday School Teacher and served on various committees with 39 years serving as church Treasurer. Paul has been a 32 Degree Mason since 1949, belonging to the Danville Scottish Rite Bodies and Olive Branch Lodge No. 38 AF and AM. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 210 and a former member of the Local Chapter of AARP, having served on its Board of directors. Paul was also a member of the 71st Division Association. Paul enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife for many years, enjoyed a variety of sports, followed the Chicago Cubs and Bears and the University of Illinois Basketball and Football Teams and for many years enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and golfing.
Paul was associated with the Danville Loan Company and a certified Public Accounting Office before going into business as Greene Oil Company, Inc for 30 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Mark Keyser will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 1-3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made in Pauls name to Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church, Ridgeview Baptist Church or to a charity of the donors choice.
