Paul David Kent

Paul “David” Kent was born February 3, 1963 at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Indiana. David was the 1st born of 4 children to Paul and Barbara Kent. David was surrounded with family for the months he and his mother lived with her parents in rural Connersville, IN. Later in 1963, his father returned from his service in the U.S. Army in Korea and moved his family to Bloomington, IN where his brother Brad and his sister Pam would later be born. In 1970, Dave’s family moved to Terre Haute, IN where his youngest sibling Ed would be born. In 1971, his family moved to Jeffersonville, IN. In 1976, his family moved to Maryville, KY. In 1979, Dave was a Junior at North Bullitt High School in Shepherdsville, KY and Dave was very active in baseball, basketball and football, but the family moved before football season that year. He attended Marion C. Moore High School in Louisville, KY. for a few months before his family moved to Covington, IN, where he attended Covington High School. Dave ended up attending 3 different schools his Junior year and had to miss the football season that year due to an injury. Dave was able to play basketball and baseball for 2 seasons at Covington. He played football his Senior year and earned a scholarship to Harding University in Searcy, AR. Number 26 played 2 seasons as a Defensive Back for the Harding Bisons before his football career was cut short due to injury. Dave continued his time at Harding and was very active on campus and was the host for many popular artists who performed at Harding. Lee Greenwood and Air Supply are a couple of the acts Dave liked to share his experience of hosting. Dave graduated from Harding University in 1987, earning a BSE in Accounting. Upon graduating from college, Dave moved to Dallas, TX. In Dallas, Dave met Susie and they later married in 1988 in Covington, IN. After their marriage they lived in Indianapolis, IN. In 1989 David & Susie moved to Bloomington where their 1st child, Paul “Derek” Kent was born and in 1990 their daughter, Alyssa Ann Kent was born. The family briefly lived in French Lick, IN before moving to Paoli, IN later in 1990. In 1993, Dave, Susie, Derek and Aly moved to Dallas, TX. Dave and his family were long-time members of Riverside Church of Christ in Coppell, TX. Dave loved spending time with his family and was very competitive in all that he did, whether it was playing cards, board games, video games or basketball in their driveway, Dave wanted to win and was going to let you know that he was going to beat you and never backed down from a challenge. He loved teaching his children and supporting them in all their endeavors. Dave established quite a large network in his business career while working at Harris 3M, Morin Lumber, Jackson and Coker, Microsoft and The Strickland Group. Dave was just as serious and competitive in his business dealings as he was in games and sports. Dave was an avid golfer and later took up bowling with his 2 brothers.

Dave cherished all the time he could spend with his grandchildren, Michael “Derek” Earnshaw, Everett Reed Biller and Leora Ivy Biller.

Dave will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends, teammates, colleagues and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

David is preceded in death by his son Derek Kent and his father Paul Kent.

He is survived by his daughter Aly (Nathan) Biller, grandsons Derek Earnshaw and Everett Biller, granddaughter Leora Biller and Susie Kent all of Fort Worth, TX. His mother Barbara Kent, brother Brad (Jackie) Kent, sister Pam (Ashley) Messick and brother Ed Kent all of Covington, IN. His nephew Steve (Brittany) Jones, great-nephew Maddox Jones, great-niece Sawyer Jones all of Oakwood, IL. His nephew Ray Kent and great-niece Hadley Kent of Danville, IL. His nephew Cam (Raven) Jones of Lafayette, IN. His niece Amanda (Andre) Cooper, great-nieces Angela and Ari Cooper of St. Louis, MO, and his niece Maxx (Ethan) Kent of Brownsburg, IN.

Dave’s family entrusted Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Covington Chapel, 420 3rd street Covington, Indiana, 47932, cremation will take place and he will be spread over his son Derek’s grave in Dallas, TX at a later date.

A Celebration of Life for Dave will be held on March 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Indiana time) at Orchard Hills Church of Christ in Covington, IN.
