Newport, Ind. - Paul Andrew Cope, 52, of Newport and formerly of Danville, Illinois, passed away at 2:40 p.m. EST Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born March 22, 1960 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Michael and Phyllis Zimmerman Largent. He married Penny Tinder on May 24, 1985 in Catlin, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Tassie(Donnie)Haner of Danville, Illinois; Josephine(Lennie)Coffey of Rossville, Illinois; Bethany(Shaun)Casey of Danville, Illinois; Andrew Cope of Newport, Indiana and Jonathan(Sarah)Cope of Del City, Oklahoma; his mother, Phyllis Largent of Danville, Illinois; 21 grandchildren; five sisters, Annette(Randy)Pruitt of Danville, Illinois; Rose(Terry)Swaim of Tilton, Illinois; Ann(Bryan)McDaniel of Perrysville, Indiana; Joykay Slater of Hollywood, Florida and Carrie Cope of Iowa; four brothers, James Newberry and Mark Largent both of Danville, Illinois; John(Brenda)Largent of Belgium, Illinos and Loren Cope of Millersburg, Iowa. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Michael Largent; son, Paul, Jr.; granddaughter, Andrea Cope; grandson, Jacoby Ryan Cope; one sister and one brother. Paul was a former truck driver working at several different firms in the Danville area. Paul served with the United States Army National Guard. He was a former Newport, Kickapoo, Tilton Fire Department and Oakwood Rescue volunteer. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and Washington Redskins football. He especially enjoyed MMA fighting which his son, Jonathan Cope, participated in, serving as his cornerman. At the family's request, cremation has been accorded.
