Patty Lou Brown, 82, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at her home in Dana, Indiana. She was born on August 5, 1943 in Danville, Illinois to the late Mildred and Donald Dillon. Her father passed when she was only 7, and soon after Don Ratcliff was welcomed into the family. He helped raise, and would later adopt, Patty and her sibling. Patty was a proud graduate of Kingman High School, where her love for creativity and connection with others began to flourish. She married the love of her life, Thomas, on March 16, 1962 and the two would share the next 63 years together making wonderful memories.
For 22 remarkable years, Patty and Thomas operated Brown's Kettle Corn, a business that quickly became a beloved local staple. Known for its delightful and irresistible popcorn, their venture took off more than they had anticipated, capturing the hearts and appetites of many. Patty's dedication and hard work alongside her husband created not just a thriving business but also countless cherished memories and connections that endured the rest of their lives.
Patty was also known for her artistic talents. She found joy in crafting and making cards, activities that allowed her to express her creativity and share her love with friends and family alike. Among her proudest accomplishments was her role as a grandmother. Patty took great joy in spoiling her grandchildren, creating deep bonds filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.
In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by her brother Donald J. Dillon.
Patty is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Brown; her children, Donnie Brown and Carol Brown Wittenmyer; her brothers, Jack (Sue) Dillon and Johnny (Sue) Ratcliff; as well as her grandchildren Kaylee Brown and Lindsey (Joey) Hammer; great-grandchildren Emma Joe Brown and Grayson Hammer, and several nieces and nephews.
