Patrick E. (Pat-Rik) Black, 52 of Westville passed away at 1:06am on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 following a tragic accident the prior evening. He was born on November 13, 1961, the son of Richard E. and Patricia A. (Emery) Black. Always the life of the party, Patrick was a "born" storyteller who loved to make people laugh. His friends, family, and animal companions (Barfly then Shadow, and most recently Cookie) were his entire world. Patrick was also a naturally gifted musician, artist, and poet who took the time to teach many of his friends to play guitar. His favorite performer of all time was Frank Sinatra. Patrick's passion for Frank's music was unparalleled. His hobbies included model building, cooking, baking, and a love of collecting. His eclectic tastes were satisfied at the Covered Bridge Festival each fall, which was Patrick's favorite season of the year. He was an "avid" gamer who loved both video and board games. A lifelong movie buff, his favorites included Zombies and Superheroes. Patrick looked forward to the “Fall Family Cookout” every year that honored him, his brothers and his Mothers birthdays all at once. This particular year was even more precious to him, as he was able to take part in the building of the new Brick Fire Pit with his brothers Buck and Beav. He expressed much thanks and love for being able to be a part of this project with them. Patrick's profession for many years was as a Floor Refinishing/Maintenance Supervisor which he loved and found great satisfaction doing. This job garnered him his own Superhero nickname of "WaxMan." Most recently he was an at home co- caregiver for his beloved mother which helped allow her to keep working at her own job that she loved so much, despite all of the physical challenges she faced. He leaves behind two brothers, Timothy James Michael Black a.k.a. "Beav” and Darrick “Buck” (Tonya) Black Sr.; one special niece, Jada Talitha Ann Black; two special nephews, TraVonte Phelps and Darrick Black Jr., all of Westville. Two half-sisters, Janice Allen and Terri Thomas; soul mate Ronda Carney; his best friend Steve Pataki and dear friends Barb Johnson and Jimmy Roberts as well as many Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patrick was preceded in death by both parents and one half-brother, Michael Black. Patricks Friends and family are hosting an open house on Sunday October 19, 2014 in Belgium at the "Capone Building" (3 story blue building) on the South side of Lyons Road just west of the railroad tracks. His friends and relatives are invited to attend this Celebration of Life, beginning at 1:00pm. Please bring any memories, stories and pictures of Patrick to share. All of the main entrees, soda and water will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. The space is being generously donated by Patrick's friends, Steve and Barb. A HUGE “Thank You” to Steve & Barb for their love of Patrick & kindness to the family. Much “thanks” also goes to Patricks many friends who stepped up to help prepare for this special day. Memorial donations may be made to the family. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel assisted his family with arrangements.
