Danville Patrick Anthony Ahrens, 82, of Danville passed away at 10:26 PM on June 1, 2021 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, IL.
Patrick was born on June 13, 1938 the son of Charles and Helen (Werner) Ahrens, Sr. He married Martha Ann Stephens on July 3, 1968 in Danville and she survives.
Survivors include his two daughters, Shelly (Steve) Rutledge of St. Louis, MO and Amy Ahrens of Dallas, TX, two sons, Greg Ahrens (Laura Derickson) of St. Louis, MO and Steve Ahrens of St Augustine, FL, two grandchildren, Sean (Rebecca) Rutledge of Portland, OR and Ben (Michael Bruggeman) Rutledge of St. Louis as well as several nieces and nephews.
Patrick is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Julia Oswalt, Mary Meitzler and Charles, Ahrens, Jr.
Patrick was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and retired from Flexel, formerly the Olin Company, in Indiana. He was an avid golfer, Indy 500 fan, and loved a variety of sports. He rooted for the Illini, St Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, and all of the Schlarman sports teams. His biggest love of all was his family. He taught his children the importance of faith, family, and hard work. He was a person with true integrity, hence the nickname Saint Patrick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 444 East Main Street, Danville, IL 61832. Father Steven Loftus will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61834.
It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or services wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Schlarman Foundation.
