DANVILLE - Otto Huber Spicer, 78, of Danville passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at V.A. Illiana Health Care Systems in Danville. Born October 9, 1936 in Hawbuck, he was the son of Charles and Beulah (Martin) Spicer. He married Irene R. Kagels on May 10, 1959 in Danville. Otto served his country with honor in the United States Army. He was a member of Sheet Metal Local #218 for over 50 years, working many places in Champaign and Danville. He was a former member of the Illiana Antique Auto Club, he enjoyed restoring antique cars and being on the farm. He was a lifetime fan of the Green Bay Packers, coached many baseball teams, and loved attending his grandsons baseball games. But above all else he was a family guy, and loved any time he was able to spend with his kids, grandson and extended family. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Irene of Danville; three children, Sue Spicer of Chattanooga, TN, Scott (Angela) Spicer of Cobden, IL and Crystal (Jesse) Simmons of Danville; a grandson, Zack Simmons; two sisters, Helen “Pat” Albea of Danville and Arlene (Jeff) Leighty of Danville; three brothers-in-law, Wayne Kirk of North Carolina, John (Marlene) Young of Danville and Bill McCormack of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Evelyn Conley, Lucia Kirk, Jackie Copas, Betty Young, Grace Spicer and Nita McCormack; and three brothers-in-law, John Copas, Harlan Conley and Louis Albea. A service to celebrate Ottos life will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 12th at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor David Leary officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Danville American Legion Post 210 will be at Danville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the time of service Monday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established for V.A. Palliative Care.
