Danville, Ill. - Orval W. Mathis, 82, of Danville, passed away at 6:43 a.m. EDT Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the Waters of Covington in Covington, Indiana.
He was born July 9, 1938 in Rossville, Illinois the son of the late Gladys Mathis.
Orval married Patsy K. Brown on April 21, 1986 in Newport, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2018.
Survivors include his children: Johnny (Pam) Mathis of Westville, Illinois; Paul (Marina) Mathis of Huntley, Illinois; Mike (Chris) Mathis of Lakeworth, Florida and Lisa (Shawn) Howard of Williamsport, Indiana; stepchildren: Greg A. Apple of Covington, Indiana; Linda (Chris) Smith of Perrysville, Indiana; Art (Karen) Apple of Amherst, Nebraska and Cindy March of Crawfordsville, Indiana; eight grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren, and one brother: Bob (Judy) Hardy of Orlando, Florida.
Orval was preceded in death by his sister: Pat Angelmeyer.
Orval retired from Lauhoff/Bungee in Danville, Illinois in 2000. He enjoyed gardening, watching birds, yardwork, playing music and watching his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
Private graveside services will be held at Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. EDT Monday, October 5, 2020 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana.
