RIDGE FARM - Orval J. Proffitt, 85, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 9:25am, Wednesday, August 29th, 2007, at VA Illiana Health Care System of Danville. He was born on October 29th, 1921, in Cave City, KY, the son of Hiley and Ellie (Gramalam) Proffitt, both deceased. He was wed to Elizabeth Harrison on November 1st, 1945, in Glasgow, KY. She preceded him in death in June of 1999. He later married Lois (Ankrum) Lewis on January 15th, 2001, in Danville, IL. She survives of Ridge Farm. He will also be missed by: his son, Rondal Proffitt of Danville; his daughters, Sara (Carroll) Baird of Indianola & Rebecca (Jeff) Williams of Williamsport, IN; his step-sons, David (Valarie) Lewis of Georgetown & Terry (Valarie) Lewis of Vero Beach, FL; his step-daughter, Brenda (Chuck) Langloss of Clarksville, TN; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Proffitt of Colorado Springs, CO; his five grandchildren, Nathan Baird, Gary Baird, Erin Baird, Christopher Proffitt, & Carissa Proffitt; his fourteen step-grandchildren; his five step-great grandchildren; his brothers, James Proffitt of Glasgow, KY, and Paul (Wanda) Proffitt of Cave City, KY; and his sisters, Zada (Ronald) Mansfield of Glasgow, KY, and Kathryn Thomason of Bowling Green, KY. His parents, his son-Charles Chuck Proffitt, his three brothers-Ray, Alvin, & Charles, his sister-Christine, and two infant siblings preceded Orval in death. Orval was a Veteran of the US Army serving in WWII during the European Theatre. He was a farmer and had also worked for Danville Metal Stamping. He was a member of the East Park Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and story-telling. Orval was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. A celebration of Orvals life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, September 1st, 2007, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown, IL. Dennis Floyd will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4p to 8p, Friday, August 31st, 2007, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given in Orvals name to the East Park Church of Christ, 1224 E Voorhees St, Danville, IL. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola, IL.
