Opal Sanders

Opal M. Sanders, 85, of Danville passed away at 7:40 pm Sunday September 5, 2004 at Heritage Nursing Home in Normal, IL. Opal was born July 19, 1919 in Homer, IL the daughter of the late Floyd and Josephine (Murrell) Wells. Opal married Clarence Sanders on January 25, 1942 in St Charles, MO and he preceded her in death in August of 1993 Survivors include 2 sons Art (Bonnie) Sanders of DeLand and Junior (Char) Sanders of Falls Church, VA. 3 brothers; George Wells of Eden, OH, Virgil (Alberta) Wells of St. Joseph, and Raymond (Catherine) Wells of Sydney. 2 sisters Wilma (Dale) Sims of Savoy and Barbara (A.J.) Melton of Aurora, CO. 1 grandson Clinton Pichon of San Diego, CA. 2 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death. Opal was a 1938 graduate of Homer High School. Opal was a past member of Homer Church of Christ and was a present member of Central Christian Church. Opal was very active in the PTA at both North East and Oaklawn School's. She had served as a room mother and also was a Den Mother for Scouts at North East where her husband started the Boy Scouts. Opal was active in her community as well serving as a Judge on Precinct # 13Election Board. Opals hobbies included gardening and taking care of her home which her and her son's helped build, and bird watching.
